Heavy Hopes
2013- Acrylic on canvas
Home: London, United Kingdom
What originally started out as a zebra was soon lifted and transformed to be a vibrant flying elephant to put it in plain terms. I believe it signifies of hopes and desires , we all have them and they are heavy at times , but no matter how deep or how shallow they all the the opportunity to fly. The elephant is typically used to signify many different things , one of which I hope will soon be this concept as well.

Albino Zebra
2013- Oil on canvas.
Home: London, United Kingdom
This piece is a play on words to put it simply. I see the Zebra as a creature suffering from albinism. So with this skewed projection of what a zebra could be seen as, I wanted to show a variation of a zebra that you would find in a perfect colorful world. This piece also served as a statement to show the beauties of uniqueness. The abnormalities that exist among all living walks of life is what makes the world the beautiful place it is.

Transition
2014- Oil on canvas.

Experimentation with oil paint is something that can obsess a person, it makes them constantly try to enter a new and more diverse level. My latest paintings in the early days of 2014, have been based around the idea of fluidity of the medium. If altered with the right chemicals this medium gives of a tranquil effect. In some areas it strictly mimics cloud formations, in others it works and flows like water down a stream. The inspiration for this piece goes back to my initial shock and introduction to street art. The style that had caught all of my attention and eventually my heart, can now be seen being developed and exposed through my own hand. This image is based off of a photograph that I had taken during an expedition to the world famous location of Montauk, New York. The piece is 100% oil and is carefully painted using only a size zero camel hair brush.

Opportunity
2014- Oil on canvas.
Home: Texas, United States
Throughout my travels at my University, I have seen many different cultures. They all coexist and move towards the same goal. But what really seems to grab my attention is the faith and pride that foreign students have in their studies. They see this chance as an opportunity, something that they can only grab now with the limited amount of time they have. This is something that I truly envy. Through their struggles in the past they have grown to see that education is power. It is something that no government or anyone can take away from them. This piece was made to embody the strong spirit that emanates from such immigrants world wide.

Suspense
2014- Oil and Hemp String on canvas.
Home: New York, United States
As I progress in my art career, I find myself trying to symbolize and capture emotions with everything that I paint. Wether is be from choosing a specific medium or objectifying an object with different lighting. My latest endeavor has been the addition of string texture onto my Oil paintings. About a year ago I had discovered my passion for this medium after accidentally buying the wrong paint. Back than, my art featured many animals and relied heavily on negative space. With this most recent step forward, I had decided to bring back my wild little friends and see what magic could arise once again. I began with an emotion, suspense. There are many ways to characterize this feeling, and it is also very easy to misinterpret it for anxiety. This was the main challenge when creating the piece. I wanted to make something stand alone but yet be representative. After hours of sketching, the ideal image had been forged. The piece is depicting a Rhinoceros suspended in mid air from rope ( or in this case hemp string ).My interpretation of this work is simple. When there is suspense it is often associated with something big that has the ability to be brutal, and the ability for it to happened at any moment.

Blind Justice
2014- Oil and Hemp String on canvas
Home: London, United Kingdom
This piece is the dawning of new techniques that I will be using in the near future. My pieces usually revolve around a centralized concept and this one is no exception. The image is of Lady Justice with her eyes stitched shut. Lady Justice is typically displayed with only a blind fold over her eyes, implying that justice is impartial to parties and seeks the truth. I find that Justice is not blind, and that a blindfold is in fact only a temporary solution. Either money or bias can come in the way and remove this impartiality. The only real way to make her blind is to in fact, as gruesome as it is, stitch her eyes shut. This hemp stitching along with the gold and blood color mixed drip is my representation on what justice is and what influences it.

Fiction
2014- Oil and Hemp String on canvas
Home: Louisiana, United States
While experimenting with new ways to introduce a deep contrast in my paintings, I have discovered the wonder that is string. This technique first appeared in "Blind Justice". In this piece I have chosen to make my own representation of the poplar children's novel, The Little Red Riding Hood. There is something about children and there innocence that seems to inspire me, wether is be in a visual sense or conceptual sense. They seem ever so innocent and not molded yet to the ways of the word. This is the concept behind the dark burgundy and purple color in this piece. Red is implied in the characters novel, I personally chose it to be the representation of her innocence. As time passes and she grows up she will be influenced by the darkness (black) around her from different experiences. These experiences may also make us sad (blue) and blend with our innocence , giving the color purple. I strongly believe that it is not our environment that shapes us, but rather how we react to these situations and how we take hold. For our teenage Red Riding Hood, only time will tell where where colors will go.

Corset
2014- Oil and Hemp String on canvas.
Home: London, United Kingdom
This image is one that I have been really fighting. There are always those pieces which you hunk are complete, or can add to. Unfortunately enough, this just happens to be the one. The more interesting thing though is the concept behind it. It is actually quiet ironic. This is meant to be a statement against how women are essentially sewn to be. About a two centuries ago, Corsets were in style and they were worn by all higher class women. But this device was not controllable, nor was it cheap, but it showed off the "ideal" hour glass figure. Although in modern society women do not have to wear these contraptions anymore, They are still burned with the image that society has placed on them as ideal. Even in the bare nude, societies hold is present. Almost like a corset that is sewn right into ones skin. This struggle for self acceptance and social perfection is the main objective for this piece. It is also the reason why my uneasiness towards it is somewhat ironic.

Cow in me
2014- Oil on canvas.
Home: Singapore
This piece was conceptually all over the place in the very beginning. I first began painting the piece with a outcome and statement in mind when, as always, I had to step back and take a look at what I have done. What initially was going to be a statement on the leather industry, turned into a more interesting piece of emotion. I scraped the leather I had scavenged, ripped out the threads, and focused on the pure emotion of things. I really loved the way that the face came out. It spoke to me, it wasn't capable of bringing such a harsh reality. Frankly , the more I looked at it, the more I seemed to see myself. Not in the sense that I'm a cow, but more the the facial expression. The different outlined sections are the prime meat that I love and that I love to cook. Now that I come to look at it, this is probably all of the beef that I have been eating lately talking.
This piece was also the home of a very interesting experiment. Useually I prefer to paint my paintings in a very matte manor, this keeps colors bold and emotion untampered. In this piece I used a different base. One that is 100% organic, environmentally friendly, hand made, and gives it a nice clean shimmer when exposed to light. The base? well I will have to say that it is from a seed. The rest is magic and possibly a hidden secret of mine.

Dalliance
2014- Oil on canvas.
Home: Arkansas, United States
As I continue to progress with my painting, I find myself experimenting more and more with different mediums and techniques to give my paintings more pop. This piece had a very interesting aspect mixed into the paint, gold. Not real gold but gold flake. The pigment itself is very over powering when mixed in with colors. Often I find the color completely washed out and turned into a mud brown. In this scenario I mixed it into the black as well as bright violet color accents. this should give the piece a very light glimmer when faced with light. Also as with previous pieces such as "McDouble" I used my new experimental oil. Not nearly as heavy as in other pieces, but still substantial. This technique has been observed to give the colors a new level of vibrance that I could previously no achieve.
As for the image context, I cannot say much in order to not bias your judgement. Simply I will describe this piece as the definition of the title. A short love affair.

Makeshift
2014- Oil and Hemp String on canvas.
Home: Alberta, Canda
It is no question that we are brought up being told that one person can make a difference, or that everybody has the inherent power to change the course of history. But I find that this power is often limited. The people who have power, mainly those who have tremendously big pockets, will grasp and hold the people by any means possible. It is because of their money that they have this power. What these rich holders of power do not realize is that they can only make makeshift barricades on the progressive generations and those who wish to speak out. Their money might soon run out, but our urge to progress will not. Their money cannot silence a nation.
This was the concept behind this piece. To invoice the temporary solutions that leaders put on situations I used string on the mouth as a barricade. String has the ability to withstand the many things, but once it is exposed to the elements repeatedly, it collapses and disintegrates. These elements are our wills, our voices, our thoughts. The color in this Oil painting was done to represent the sweet green of money that these leaders are obsessed with. It is not the actual green of money, but rather their own glorified green.

Withering
2014- Oil on canvas.
Home: New York, United States
Lately I have been taking advice from elders quiet regularly. Their stories and experience always seem to amaze me. The things that the previous generation experienced cannot be forgotten. They were brave soldiers, strong women, and loving parents. I get the most joy from seeing veterans of war. I make it a priority, no matter how beaten they seem, no matter how tired they or myself might be, I will always approach them and thank them for their service. It is those men and women who have mended and shaped the world into what it is today. They are the inspiration for this piece. Through their struggle, and their sacrifice, they shine brightly. no matter how wrinkly and distressed the surface might seem.

With the start of a new college semester, I am once again forced to refocus my time management to fit everything into place. This seems like a task that would require a tremendous amount of meditation, for no human being can accomplish everything, every time, perfectly. When faced with relatively large amounts of stress I tend to hide away and paint. It is my form of meditation so to say. But yet I am largely envious to monks around the world. Their control of the mind is something that is inexplicable. They spend years studying, learning, and practicing the methods. although I personally do not have the time for that commitment, Id like to think that I learn something about this ancient powerful technique in my painting of this young child striving for this power.

Vibrance
2013- Acrylic, Ink, Spray paint on canvas.
Home: Texas, United States
xI have had a reoccurring trend of elephants and a strange obsession with linear shapes in my sketches lately and this piece is a prime example. What originally started out as a pink background, transferred to a baby blue, and eventual incorporated the outline of an elephant. This piece was made over the course of a months time. Countless remasters and touch up followed every week of it's creation until it was done to my heart desires. The initial background lines had a deep Aristotle and star gazing effect, made to represent early sketches of his anatomy studies and mathematical connectivity. While the top layer of multiple shades of yellow and orange were used a symbolism to show how even though we have progressed , we still rely on what was discovered during that essential time period in history.
This piece involves the use of many different types of media. The underlying layers are both acrylic and can be seen on the sides of the canvas where paint was dripped, splattered and smeared. On top on the blue layer there was the addition of oil and a extra heavy gloss gel to give the effect of a drip. From oil the pigment was glazed with a shower of acrylic spray paint to give a transitioning effect, and finally topped off with hours of precise line work done with both brush and marker.

5hapes
2014- Oil, Acrylic, Ink on plastered canvas.
Home: Michigan, United States
This piece holds many hidden meanings within the cubic 154 inches it covers. The background of this canvas piece is made from torn out pages from a book of famous quotes. This gives it a very rustic feel, while holding true to its Urban roots. While many street artists are forced to put their beautiful works on old posters throughout cities, I believe that this circumstance in most cases gave their work special characteristics that a white canvas just cannot accomplish. The image that was drawn on top of the layered quotes was done using one of my favorite antique techniques, crosshatching. I felt it would only be right for antique quotes to be accented with a classic technique that would have been used during that time. The rest of the painting was done with a mixture of oil paint and marker to complete the desired effect

Sandman
2014- Oil and Acrylic on gold.
Home: Michigan, United States
This piece signaled a change of pace for me. I was in need for something new, something creative that I personally have not seen or undertaken. This change was going to be a spiced up background. While I love the bold contrasts between a titanium white background, I was in search for something more impacting, Gold and Copper. This combo turned out to be a one two punch that gave me a tremendous challenge to work with. I essentially needed to learn how to paint again. My previous techniques would not hold up, since they would continually pick up the background flake and disturb the shading process. Unfortunetly enough, instead of breaking the rules as I always love to do, I needed to conform to them in order to create the finished product. All of the long schooling and shape, color, and motion studies came together for the first time in a long time.
The subject matter is something that I hold quiet dear to me, Evolution. The person in the painting is actually Charles Darwin. Being a science nerd myself, I find him to be a legend. His work is ground breaking and he is truly a very interesting man. But he gives off a very interesting vibe. Almost as if he knows your fate. Almost in a sense that he is saying "shhh, don't struggle, there is nothing you can do". With this I would then go to connect it to the famous sandman myth or story to create the finished piece. Not only did he push for the theory of survival of the fittest, he pushed me into a whole to art criteria which I will continue to actively pursue.

Boy-in-sea
2013- Acrylic on canvas.
Home: Illinois, United States
This painting tells a story of conflict, realization, and embracement. What originally started as a oil painting of a far of sea scape was turned into this piece. The creation of the underlying oil piece was a conflict that seemed to never end. I had come to the conclusion that this canvas must have been tainted and I finally decided to throw it aside in hopes of picking it up another day. Months had passed and nothing had been changed or touched. Instead I heard a voice whisper "paint it over". My inner conscious is something that I have learned to trust but not in such a matter. But once again months had passed since anything was touched again. Suddenly one day I had spontaneously taken this canvas , whipped a lightly off white interior wall paint layer on it and began my drawings of this fish.
I was infatuated with the statement there are many fish in the sea, for everyone seemed to skip over the fact that all we really are is another fish. We must make ourselves special, embrace the color we feel , and portray more than just a simple monotone fish. What we are is a product of nature , this is what i wanted to convey with the opposing gravity drips. We do not drip away, but more so that life drips on us, causing us to change in our own unique waves. Along with convoluted layers of spirals and line work, this fish is somewhat a self portrait of my current stance with life. I believe that I am not alone and that there are people out there who share the same feeling as me, a feeling that goes as such...I am not in sinking to the bottom, but I am also not on top. I seem to be have characteristics of buoyancy, a inherent skill to be somewhere in the middle.

2013- Silkscreen and Acrylic on canvas.
Home: Virginia, United States
This series was a mix media series that included Oil, silk screen , acrylic media . During this series i had a small obsession with the beautiful japanese Lotus tree and its inherent ability to make a tranquil image no matter how the image was portrayed. Ever since a small film by the name of The Last Samurai, I have turned a new eye to Eastern Art and their ways. This is my version of a modern Japanese Image , but with a very modern urban flare. These were my first experiments with mixed media and canvas.

Everlong
2015- Oil and Acrylic on canvas.

The Eagle is often used to represent Justice and the power of good in the united states. In other countries it seems to hold a message of power and royalty. But these images have been constructed years ago, some during the brutal times of war. In modern society we do not look to animals as symbols for what a nation stands for, in general we have lost the ability to associate symbols with anything. More often then not, each generation looses touch with what once used to be the driving force behind human advancement; they are loosing touch with their imagination. People no longer read in-between the lines but rather right on them, believing what ever is told to them. This oil painting has been created to represent such a fall. What once used to be a looked up to, symbolized creature, is now struggling with the falling of human awareness and consciousness.

Strung Out
2015- Oil and Hemp String on canvas.
Home: Australia
Before I set off to a new semester in college, I like to look back and appreciate the struggles I went through to get to where I am today. But this is not limited to the start of new semesters. I feel it is very healthy to take a third person perspective at one's life to appreciate how far they have come and the gifts they have. When looking back, I could not over look this one feeling of being left on my own to figure out my studies. Although there are these fake walls and talks that there is always support, some things you cannot get help on. Those are the things that make me feel strung out. Essentially like a bear on a tight rope trying to keep balance. Fall on onside and you will go insane, fall on the other and you will lose everything you have worked for. This metaphor seems to apply itself to everything in life. Life is a constant struggle between focusing too much on one objective and losing your happiness and who you truly are, versus failing at the task by giving up or simply not prioritizing. We are all strung out in one sense or another, it is how we play this balancing game that truly makes us the bear that we are.
This piece was made using a similar style that was used on a previous piece. I focused on one feeling and tried to symbolize it using obscure and comical imagery. Gold flake and copper paint was used and mixed into the oil. Along with three different tones of Hemp String.

Faith
2013- Acrylic on canvas.
Home: DC, United States
During a questionable time in my life, I needed to choose a path to follow and direction. Many people sought to find comfort with religion, others self indulgence, me? I painted. This piece seemed to represent the feeling of faith that I saw in the world around me. Simple in nature, this painting takes its deep message from the contrast of color. This is something that i have been playing with for some time now. I feel that art that can raise such a deep emotion in a simple but intellectually way is truly fascinating.

Delectation
2015- Oil on Acrylic on canvas.
Home: Louisiana, United States
There once was a time where I was only comfortable using acrylic paint. The odd part about this is that I was first introduced into painting with oils. I would have stuck with it from the beginning had I not gotten golden yellow oil paint on one of my favorite shirts at the time, that definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. The transition to Oil was one of determination. My art never seemed to get much applause from galleries near me because it was "acrylic". Well I have to say, I am lucky that this determination would forge the style in which I paint now. This piece was meant to be a reminder of who I am and where I came from. Essentially a continuation of my thought process from "strung out". Recently in these deep thoughts and moments to myself I find that my art has been a source of release, and the more I look at this image the more obvious that becomes. "delectation" is defined as pleasure and enjoyment, exactly what this image and piece signify. The wonderfully colorful and organic background is used to symbolize the joys in life and how there is an abundance of it. While the silhouette is used to symbolize us, but only a rough outline, for we are not bound to a certain shape or form. We are ever changing in order to fit into our inner desires and pleasures. This ever changing form is hinted with the organic swirls and motions of the background paint.
The background of this painting was more of an experiment than a desire. I wanted to play around with some old paint and see what I could make it do with the variety of techniques I have developed through my studies with oil paint. Needless to say, this can and will never be replicated, for the motion that the paint took is all up to chance and nature. My hand was only there to guide the liquid, but which path it chose was determined by fate.

about justas.
Signing his art as Dr. Justas Lauzadis, he is not afraid to showcase his obsessive tendencies. He embraces a uniquely experimental approach that draws from both his intellectual rigor and emotional intensity. Justas' artistic philosophy revolves around the exploration of fragility, impermanence, and authenticity. His fluid, controlled chaos of watercolors brings forth a modern yet timeless aesthetic, reflecting the transient nature of both beauty and existence itself. With a unique blend of creativity and technique, Justas' artworks bring a modern edge to traditional watercolor painting.
